LBGTQ is an umbrella initial for lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender and queer. However, this paper will focus on the transgender community. Transgender is terminology used to refer to persons whose identity does not conform to the normal sex assigned to them at birth (Harrington, 2016). This mismatch in gender identification has earned them several names including transsexual, gender non-conforming, bi-gendered, two spirits, non-binary and third gender among other names.
