A criminal justice system is any system of a country’s law enforcement that is concerned with the apprehension, prosecution, defense, sentencing and punishment of people suspected or convicted of committing criminal acts. It is a system that upholds social order by stopping and mitigating crime (Siegel &Senna, 2005). The system is made up of courts and all its various professionals, law enforcement officers and agencies, and correctional and rehabilitation centers.
