Substance misuse, substance abuse, and substance dependence have different meaning. For example, substance misuse is the harmful use of substances such as drugs and alcohol for non medical purposes while substance abuse is the dependence of additive substances especially drugs or alcohol. On the other hand, substance dependence is the aspect of becoming addictive to drugs after using them continuously. Therefore, the three behaviors talk more about drugs because they affect people in one way or the other. The main reason for this is because people use drugs to activate body function. Substance abuse, substance misuse, and substance dependence share the knowledge of drugs after someone engages in using drugs without medical purposes (Walters, & Rotgers, 2012).
