Interpret how the onset of the Great Depression (i.e., in the U.S.) and the end of Prohibition affected organized crime?

The ending of prohibition stopped up an avenue in which organized crimes produced much in term of revenue and income. For this reason, some changes occurred within the process and many people lost up their business as a result of organized crime activities. Therefore, the legalization of alcohol mandated organized crime operations in order to develop new methods of making money and diversify their holding. For this reason, many people started to find out some new methods for making money even though not all who prospered because many lacked the knowledge for coming up with better methods of making money. Many people became poor and others died because of some diseases such as malnutrition (Levine, & Reinarman, 2012).
