Jesus stated plainly that he had not come to refute the Mosaic Law but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). Jesus came further make sense of what the Mosaic Law held and although His listeners though He would say contrary to what the law said, He only extended it. According to Him, the Mosaic Law was clear in the minds of the Jews but they took it too plainly and continued to perpetuate sins. Jesus insisted on ultimate righteousness from simple things that most Jews overlooked to the grave sins that they knew and did everything to avoid.
