UNIT 1 HERE BELOW

Organizational Behavior

In the article Managing behavior in organizations , every workplace is made up of different groups of individuals who work together towards a common goal. There are various factors that influence organizational behavior including the interdependence between the employees, the social interactions among the people, the perception within the employees, favoritisms among some of the people and commonality of purpose found in the workplace. A workplace with group members who have a strong interdependence produces better results (Greenberg & Zhang, 2010) . This is because mutual dependence of group members in the organization is a crucial aspect within a firm. The degree of the interaction within the members determines how the members conduct themselves at the workplace. The perception of the group refers to the culture and the feeling behind the existence of the group. Favoritism is a common behavior within the members in professional organizations. Commonality of purpose shapes the behavior of the members hence share a common vision of the organization.

In the article Organizational behavior: Improving performance and commitment in the workplace, humans have been described as social animals thus develop groups. Organizational behavior in organizations make people follow the norms and rules stipulated by an organization. One of the advantages of organizational behavior is that it ensures that employees follow the group rules and the norms (Colquitt, Lepine, Wesson & Gellatly, 2011) . The basis of organizational survival is negatively affected by the employees who fail to follow the group norms. However, strictly abiding to the group norms sometimes makes employees lose their creativity. This is because every decision is reached after a discussion thus the individuality is not witnessed in the organization. Research has shown that groupthink sometimes leads to poor decision making. This is because dissenting voices are ignored when groups do not have nuanced leaders.

The first article supports my research question. It provides more insight on how organizational behavior at the workplace can be influenced by some aspects thus leading to negative results in the organization. Learning of the factors that affect group behavior is essential in developing strategies to strengthen the groups within professional organizations. Also, the other article supports my research question for it explains the background behind organizational behavior. The writers have explained both the negative and positive elements of organizational behavior within an organization.
