Can we be responsible for our actions?
There exists a raging debate which dwells on free will and determinism. In this context, one question emerges, is the existence of moral responsibility possible. According to Strawson, one of the most revered philosopher, the answer is no (Strawson, 1994). In his theory about moral responsibility, he associates the latter with the application of reactive attitudes. On a personal level,Strawson considers himself a determinist. In his argument, he alludes that there times when determinism and moral responsibility could be placed together. He also sets out to reconcile two schools of thought namely the pessimist who view moral responsibility as merit-based and the optimists who view moral responsibility as a result of consequences. In his argument, he views these two schools of thoughts as faulty, and hence to find what is lacking from the argument there is need to change the philosophical approach.
